In 2023, the Photopoint Gallery located inside Elmgren’s Garden Center is excited to be hosting The Arts on the Coast Annual Exhibit, entitled Through the Looking-Garden. It will be the eighth consecutive year that Photopoint has hosted the organization’s most prestigious exhibit. The show opens on June 22.
“Like in years past, we want artists to get really creative and use their imagination —give them an opportunity to really let loose on the canvas with subject matter that they are very familiar with — the garden, flowers, trees, landscapes, the great outdoors” says Photopoint Gallery Director and Owner Joy Dunigan. “The theme is a play on the title of author Lewis Carroll’s book Through the Looking-Glass, a sequel to his beloved novel Alice in Wonderland, which hopefully encourages artists to experiment and branch out with the use of color, texture and the medium they will create their pieces with.”
The Photopoint Gallery is also most famously known for being “where the garden meets art,” making it the perfect spot for the show.
“We’ve never had a show where the focus has been specifically on the garden, or things you find in or around the garden. Local artists are very inspired by the natural settings of the lowcountry and foliage of the south. This will be an opportunity to let the creativity flow and come up with something new and beautiful,” concluded Dunigan.
The Annual Exhibit opens on Thursday, June 22 and will be on view through early September.
