Pieces of Dreams by Shirley Coppet was the first solo art show that Deep South Photopoint has hosted. This show has been nothing but exceptional and unique. The opening reception was held on Friday, April 19th. The gallery was full and smiles spread throughout the room.
The artist, Shirley Coppet, is a proud retired U.S. Army veteran and local artist currently residing and working in Hinesville, Georgia. Coppet began her journey in the world of contemporary abstract less than five years ago.
As a young self-taught artist, Coppet pushed the boundaries to see where her creative talents could take her. When looking at her pieces she expressed the feeling and soul that goes into every stroke. She creates through simplicity, with a love of music, no limits, and appreciation of peace of mind. Each piece had particular details that stand out. Whether it is the framing style, the size, the color mixture, choice of shapes, or the texture of the pieces each is unique.
Shirley Coppet’s positive and uplifting personality shows through her pieces. When asked about the piece, Sunkist, she explained, “It is like a ray of sunshine, something that can make you smile when you look at it.” Coppet is very passionate about her work. She is a brave, creative soul that also believes art has the power to warm the heart, and change one’s outlook.
Organic is a mixed media piece that Coppet describes as a happy accident. She said that it was the first piece that she knew exactly what colors she wanted to use. She explained when the piece was finished that she wanted to add a fabric-like texture to it, so she enhanced it with tape. The tape was then accidentally left on which made this beautiful piece come to life.
Coppet’s show will hang until Saturday, May 18, 2019. If you were not able to make it to the opening reception stop by Photopoint Gallery at 30 Cherokee Street, Richmond Hill Ga.
