Dear AOC’ers,
It is 2025 already and the middle of January. Our next ArtNite is on February 7 from 5:30 to 8:00. The theme, Moulin Rouge, opens a world of possibilities for you to explore. Think red.
To get you in the mood, a few definitions:
Rouge:
1) a reddish powder, chiefly ferris oxide used to polish glass, metals, etc.
2) a red or pink cosmetic for coloring cheeks or lips
Red:
1.) any of a group of colors that may vary in lightness and saturation, whose hue resembles blood, the hue of a long wave on the spectrum,
2.) a pigment or dye
3.) revolutionary activist
4.) ruddy or flushed complexion
5.)reduced or reduction
Moulin: in French-is a a mill
Moulin Rouge: a cabaret in Montmartre, Paris, a favorite resort of poets and artists around the end of the 19th century. Toulouse-Lautrec immortalized its dancers in his posters. In French, the literal meaning of the name is “RED MILL”

Quarterly
This is just a reminder that we are having a Quarterly on Monday, February 3 from 6:30 to 8:30. Note: this is the perfect time to pick up your old art work and to bring you pieces for the Moulin Rouge show.
Other drop off times are: Saturday, February 1 from 11:00 to 3:00 or Tuesday, February 4th from 10 to 3.
You can sign up to participate in the show online or when you drop your work off. You must have an active membership. Check our website for more information.
Up to 3 pieces are allowed but please be aware of the size of your work….wall space is limited.
Note:
Art In Bloom artwork is due on March 1st. You will send a photo of your piece to be judged by 3 judges. Art work that is not picked will be installed at the Estes Gallery and will hang for 16 weeks. The rules and application is on the AOC website
