ARTWORK STATEMENT: This pot was made as I studied the human figure while studying abroad in Italy. I decided to be influenced by bodies you don't necessarily see celebrated in Roman art throughout history. I was tasked with making a coil pot that contained something. This pot holds all the contempt I've ever carried for my own body and symbolically represents the end of that era. There is no more room for any energy that is not positive towards my body. I find much of my inspiration in the outdoors and incorporate textures from many natural items. I impressed a fern into the back of this pot, as it mimics the spine. There are natural pigments and oxides that bring an energetic feeling to contrast the pure white values that cover the rest of the form.
