As long as I can remember, all I ever wanted to do was paint and draw. I was very fortunate to be able to attend the University of Hartford, Hartford Art School in Connecticut to earn my Bachelors of Fine Arts as an illustration major. Over the years, I took on various freelance jobs and settled into teaching. After 8 years of being the middle school art teacher at Savannah Christian Preparatory School, I decided it was time to leave teaching and focus on my art full time. At that point, we moved from busy Savannah to the quiet community of Sunbury where I have been able to immerse myself in the beauty of southeast Georgia.
I hope to convey the laid back vibe and fantastic beauty of life on the coast in my paintings. Throughout the creative process I focus on color and brushstroke, all the while trying not to give too much information in the way of detail. Conversely, my pencil drawings are inspired by the surrealist theory of automatic drawing. They are not a result of anything occurring in nature and focus heavily on detail.
Most recently, I’ve been taking my painting in a slightly different direction. Still inspired by the water, but shifting my focus to conveying motion through color and light. Combining my painting process with the theory I follow in my drawing process has given me a whole new artistic voice and I’m so excited see where this journey takes me.
