Experience Fort McAllister State Historic Park's premier event, the Candle Lantern Tour - an annual tradition since 1979!
Take a 30-minute guided candlelit tour through time with stops at several stations around the fort. Get an inside look at the work being done at the blacksmith’s shop, and view soldiers performing their nightly duties. Feel the power of the cannon as it fires at Union ships approaching the fort by the Ogeechee River. Stop at the hospital and see doctors tending to a wounded soldier. The fort's mascot, "Tom Cat," who was the only casualty during a battle in 1863, is rumored to still be seen today, running along the defenses.
Tickets are priced at $25, with children two and under entering for free. This event sells out quickly – and you don’t want to miss that cannon firing – so pre-register starting September 1st by calling the park office at 912.727.2339.
For that authentic, candlelit feel, attendees are encouraged to leave their flashlights at home. Fort McAllister is located at 3894 Fort McAllister Rd
