Spend a day on Ossabaw Island, Georgia’s third largest barrier island. Travel by boat across Ossabaw Sound to the island’s North End, to enjoy an interpretive history tour. Bring your own picnic lunch to enjoy on tables under the trees or on the porch of the 1890s-era Club House. After lunch, there will be time to wander the North End on your own, before returning to the mainland.

Time: Depart at 9:00am. Please arrive by 8:45am.
Return at 3:45pm (this is an approximate time.)

Who should attend: All are welcome. Reservations and prepayment required. Minors must be accompanied by supervising adult. Recommended for age 12 and up.

Other: Bring your own lunch and water/beverage. Trip occurs rain or shine, unless canceled by the boat captain due to weather advisory. Depart and return via Skidaway Island, Savannah, Georgia

Description: A visit to Ossabaw Island offers possible sightings of a variety of wildlife including migratory birds, wading birds, and feral hogs, as well as free-roaming domesticated donkeys, and perhaps an alligator. Take short hikes to Cane Patch Island (site of a large native American shell midden), and on forest and marshside trails.

The 45-minute-long interpretive tour is an overview of the history of Ossabaw Island, Georgia's third largest barrier island, from the native Americans through the 20th century ownership by the Torrey family. Learn about the sale of Ossabaw to the State of Georgia as a Heritage Preserve in 1978 and the programs offered here now by the Ossabaw Island Foundation and other partners. Tour three 1840s era restored tabby cabins built as housing by enslaved Africans and learn about the tabby-making process.
